The Water Resources Department maintains and monitors the water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, water treatment plant, and the wastewater treatment plant for the Town. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water.

We work continually to improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water in regards to both drinking water and the quality of treated waste water that is returned to our local environment.

If you are having a problem with your water or sewer service or have any questions, please contact the billing department located at Town Hall and they will dispatch personnel if attention is required.

Report A Water Leak

If you are experiencing a water leak inside a building or between the water meter and a building, please consult with a plumber. You may also notice a problem if your water bill is unusually high, or utility readers may detect a leak while reading your meter.

Call 828-689-2301, if you notice water :

  • Leaking from under the street pavement.

  • Leaking out of a meter box.

  • Leaking from a fire hydrant.

All leaks are a priority, but crews maintain more than 70 miles of water and wastewater mains, so the timing of maintenance is based largely on workload. Leaks posing a potential threat to health and safety are classified as emergencies and always receive immediate attention. Other leaks are repaired based on severity - amount of water loss, the potential for pavement or property damage, etc. Depending on workload, the response time can sometimes be a little longer for the smallest leaks. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work everyday to address water leaks, to continue enhancing our response time, and to keep clean, high-quality water on its path to your home or business.

For after hour emergencies, call 828-206-1022.

To protect the public water and sewer system, property owners are not allowed to dig in any utilities right-of-way. Before you start digging along your property borders -- or anywhere near public utilities located on or around your property -- pick up the phone and dial 811 or visit www.nc811.org

Any digging outside the right-of-way is the responsibility of the property owner to call 811 prior to digging. NC law requires anyone engaging in excavation or demolition activities to contact NC811 at least three working days prior to starting the work. NC811 will then notify the member facility owners within your area of excavation or demolition. The member facility owner has three working days to provide a response and to mark any underground facilities that may be in conflict with the work area.
